Making Objects

“Ceramic objects communicate on many levels and it is these possibilities of engagement

and response that I find compelling. The intersection of form, colour, tone and light are

the constant drivers.”

Kirsten Coelho (b.1966) works in porcelain creating works that attempt to fuse the formal and the abstract. All her works are constructed on a potter’s wheel and then fired in a kiln using gas reduction.

Kirsten exhibits regularly in Australia and internationally. Recent exhibitions include the solo exhibition In The Falling Light curated by Karen O’Clery exhibited at the Drill Hall ANU Canberra and Newcastle Art Gallery NSW and group presentations through Adrian Sassoon London UK, Scottish Gallery UK and Matin Gallery Los Angeles USA.

In 2015 Kirsten was the recipient of the City of Hobart Art Prize (Ceramics) and in 2012 received the Sidney Myer Australian Ceramic Award in the Australian category. In 2013 Kirsten was awarded the Bank of Tokyo- Mitsubishi Travel Fund. Kirsten’s work is held in state and national public collections in Australia, and internationally in The Netherlands and the UK. She is represented by Philip Bacon Galleries Brisbane and This Is No Fantasy Melbourne.
